An earthquake is a shake or tremor caused by the sudden release of energy in the earth’s crust. The strongest part of an earthquake is the focal point. the waves of forest that trouble through the earth as a result of an earthquake are called seismic waves. The sudden release of energy is caused by the shifting of the tectonic plates. there is a separate Caribbean plate that encompasses most of the Caribbean Sea, but the Greater Antilles group struggles of the Caribbean Plate-North American plate boundary zone. The Gonậve Microplate (including much of Jamaica and Hispaniola) has falls on its northern boundary and southern boundary. this makes them more likely to have devastating earthquakes. The recent Haiti earthquake measured 7.0 on the seismometer which is a device used to measure the strength of earthquakes.
